Often referred to as a preparticipation physical examination (PPE), a sports physical determines whether or not your child is physically fit to participate in a particular sport. To avoid future sports-related injuries and health issues, your child must be cleared to play a sport. The PPE can identify topics your child may encounter while participating in a particular sport. However, this does not always preclude your child from participating in that sport. If a doctor identifies a problem, they can also prescribe treatment to help your child experience more safely. Doctors can even offer children and their parent's advice on how to avoid injury.
